We have heard about the shortage of groceries and concerns about our holiday dinners, but for some pet owners, this is affecting their animals’ canned food. It is not only dog food that is affected, but also cat food.

For most of us, we know that there is a shortage of ketchup packaging, oat milk and ordinary canned food. Although the USDA may point out that this is not a technical shortage but a "supply chain interruption," it is a shortage as shoppers looking for these products. They don't have one, so you are out of stock.

Needless to say, as Buffalo’s ABC 7 points out, pet owners now also find that their feline and canine friends are in short supply of canned food. And because of this "supply chain interruption," there may even be price increases when acquiring stocked canned food.

One of the reasons for the shortage is related to the problem of aluminum cans. Supply simply cannot meet demand. This problem has been going on for some time, but it has been exacerbated by the pandemic.

Another problem is obtaining ingredients that are commonly used in many canned foods that many pet owners choose. Whether it is a canned food problem or a raw material problem, some dog food and cat food brands have to change the status quo and try new raw materials, new textures and flavors in order to put pet food on the shelves.

As long as you and your pet are willing to deal with it flexibly, there are still foods to choose from. But if you have a picky eater on hand, you may encounter some problems.

Have you dealt with the shortage of pet food? What brand are you trying to acquire? What did you turn to? Let us know in the comments.
