The Thanksgiving dinner shopping boom is happening, but don’t let rising prices, supply chain shortages, or groceries on store shelves hinder your ideal holiday table.

The National Grocery Association stated that amid shortages in the national supply chain, some stores reported low stocks of canned gravy, fillings and frozen pies. Canned food may also be more difficult to find.

Another reason for looking for alternative ingredients: According to CNBC reports, food prices are rising, especially meat, seasonings, salad dressings and agricultural products.

Whether your first choice is out of stock or you want to save some money, a little creativity can go a long way.

We asked two DC chefs to provide the best ideas for your Thanksgiving dinner substitutes and substitutes.

Although turkey is usually what people like to eat for Thanksgiving dinner, there are many options to replace it as a main course.

"The reality is that you can do dozens of things. I think you just need to release the idea of'I must eat turkey'," said private chef J. Jackson. "Once you release this idea, you can do almost anything."

If you are looking for a budget-friendly alternative, Jackson (also known as Mr. Foodtastic) recommends making a plate of turkey wings or turkey breast instead of a whole bird.

For those who want to remove the meat, check out this mouth-watering green curry cauliflower roast. Jackson said that this large amount of root vegetables will give people a taste similar to eating meat, which usually affects people's preference for vegetarian dishes.

Mark Bucher, the co-founder and head chef of Medium Rare Steak Frites Restaurant, said that if you are looking for new flavors, grilled tenderloin, poultry and even fried duck are great substitutes for turkey. He especially liked Chateaubriand, which was the piece of meat from which the filet was cut.

"Chateaubriand is very sexy on Thanksgiving, but it is often underused," Butcher said. "It's something you can cut at the table and will amaze your guests."

For some people, the wobbly things that come out of the can are irreplaceable. But homemade cranberry sauce is not too challenging-and you can make it in advance. All you need is cranberries, sugar, water and sour fruit ingredients such as orange juice.

If you don't like cranberries or are interested in trying new things, making sauces with other fruits is a good choice.

Jackson likes fruits such as gooseberries, raspberries, apples, cherries or apricots.

Chef Bucher believes that apples and cinnamon are great alternatives to holiday seasoning sauces. He recommends trying this recipe:

Spices have become one of the most expensive items for Thanksgiving dinners-one of the most well-known spice brands. McCormick, based in Maryland, said it has been dealing with supply chain challenges.

Often, people don’t realize that their favorite spices are made from a blend of easier-to-find ingredients.

This is why Jackson recommends combining your own spices at home to create what you need.

Savoury spices are combinations of spices that you can make at home. McCormick includes oregano, cinnamon, garlic powder, chili powder, minced ginger, salt and black pepper.

Chef Bucher recommends reliable salt and pepper. Packaged soup or salad dressing can also add charm.

"My grandmother would cheat with soup mixtures like Lipton Onion Soup or even salad dressing," Bucher said. "Some ancient recipes date back 50 to 60 years ago, spreading French sauce on your roasted poultry. I know it sounds disgusting, but it's actually very good."

Pumpkin spice is just equal amounts of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and ginger. Here is an example of how to use a homemade mix: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies from Sally's Baking Addiction.

If you need allspice-this is a root spice, not a combination of the whole spice cabinet! — Our chef recommends replacing it with close spices, such as cloves or nutmeg.

If you are making meat, homemade gravy is easy. That's it.

Evaporated milk is one of the canned foods. It may be more expensive than usual or in short supply, but you can make it yourself at home.

The pies can be made from scratch at home-or changed with Megan McGrath's Pumpkin Cheesecake.

"Thanksgiving is a day you should spend time," Jackson said. "You will be surprised how easy it is to make many things."
