Backyard Burgers & Brews on tap for downtown Battle Creek Saturday

Downtown Battle Creek's annual end-of-summer festival returns Saturday with live music, yard games and food and drinks from over 25 vendors.

The Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the seventh annual Backyard Burgers and Brews festival, 6-11 p.m., at Festival Market Square. Free parking will be available in the Hamblin and Michigan Avenue ramps, the State Street lot, Willard Library and the surrounding parking lots.

“The Backyard Burgers and Brews Festival promotes diversity, it brings neighbors into dialogue, it increases the creativity in our food vendors, and it provides an opportunity for us to increase our civic pride and improve our general wellbeing,” chamber President Kara Beer said in a release.

Participating vendors include Ibison Concessions, Fox Pizza Den, 2nd Hand Smoke, Underground Cookie Company, Eli's Doces, Bigfoot Burger, Freddy's Food Hut, The Incredible Kettle, PJW Creole Cuisine, Krystal's Kitchen, Craveable Food Trailer, Later Dudes, Jamaican Spice, Beecher's Pretzels, Curry in a Hurry, Finger Lickin' Chicken, Locos Food Truck, Stud Muffin's Cupcakes, Lady Gumbo, and Teresa's Kitchen.

Brick-and-mortar locations Cricket Club and South Side Grubz will team up while Umami Ramen and Handmap Brewing will collaborate to compete with VeggZ Cafe and select vendors will be among seven teams in the "best burger" competition.

There will be non-alcoholic beverages along with a variety of beers on tap ($4 domestic, $5 craft), canned wines, seltzers from Atlas Sales and Imperial Beverage Company.
