Chandler, Arizona-The residents of Chandler can support their community while exempting the library from overdue fines this week!

Residents of Chandler City can bring food to the local library branch to reduce any fines they may owe during the city's "donation month" event.

"Because the library is a community center, collecting food donations in our branches facilitates the participation of Chandler residents," said library manager Rachelle Kuzyk.

The donated food will be donated to AZCEND, a non-profit organization based in Chandler that helps more than 50,000 adults and children.

"Food prices in exchange for fines and other food prices help us ensure that those in need do not have to be without food. For our customers, this is also a great opportunity to educate their children about kindness even if their library accounts have no balance. "Kuzyk said.

Residents are encouraged to bring the following items:

Canned Beans Fruits Canned Tuna Vegetables Canned Cereal Pasta Sauce Peanut Sauce Rice Soup Whole Wheat Pasta

During normal business hours, all four branches of the Chandler Public Library accept food donations.

For every non-perishable food item brought in, residents can waive a $1 late fee from their library account.
